Settler violence in the West Bank: incidents, victims and accountability
Violence involving Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank includes assaults, threats, arson, destruction of crops, attacks on vehicles and intimidation of Palestinian farming communities. The UN humanitarian agency OCHA records incidents involving casualties or property damage; its monitoring also differentiates victims and perpetrators where the information is established.
Context
In 2025 OCHA documented more than 1,800 settler attacks causing injuries or damage, the highest recorded annual average since it began its current monitoring in 2006. These incidents have consequences for physical safety, access to schools and land, olive harvests and the displacement of vulnerable rural communities. The figures describe recorded incidents, not the views or actions of all settlers.
Context
Settlers and political movements hold different positions, and not every confrontation has the same origin or legal characterization. Israeli law enforcement, the army and civil authorities have responsibilities that are debated domestically and internationally. Serious analysis should distinguish direct attacks from generalized political criticism and consider Palestinian victims’ accounts, official investigations and independent data.
